RCAN Paris Networking dinner

Event Date: 30 June 2016

On a beautiful Parisian evening we had 16 attendees from 10 organisations (8 law firms, an accounting firm and an arbitration institution) and 7 former USSR countries (Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Georgia and Uzbekistan) – plus the state of New York represented by Mr Rubins.

During the dinner (which was held in the beautiful summer garden of Renaissance Paris Le Parc Trocadero) Paris and London-based practitioners discussed the CIS arbitration market in Paris (strong as ever). In view of recent events, the group spent some time debating whether Brexit will have any effect on the distribution of disputes work (including that related to the CIS) between London on the one hand, and Paris and mainland Europe on the other hand – with the majority seeing no correlation between the arbitration market and the recent political events. The dinner was the first RCAN event in Paris, and the first CIS arbitration gathering of its kind in a few years. The Paris practitioners have committed to making a tradition out of the summer RCAN dinner, and to holding it regularly going forward. The Paris community are also considering other RCAN events and formats that could be held in Paris.
